Here Are Steps To Measure A Kitchen For Cabinets:

1. Measure the room wall-to-wall and record the measurements in inches.
2. Create a rough layout of the room's shape with a representation of each window, door, wall or protrusion.
3. Measure a wall section from one corner to a window or door way and record it on your drawn layout. Measure also the window and the door. This is done by measuring from the outside edge to outside edge of casing or trim.
4. All dimensions on each wall should be added. The total should be equal to the total wall-to-wall dimension on your chart. If it's inaccurate, you have to re-measure.
5. The centerline of the sink should be located by measuring from one corner of the wall. Plot this as well on your rough layout.
6. Measure ceiling to floor on several areas. The smallest dimension should be recorded.
7. Measure the depth and height if your kitchen has soffits or bulkheads. Highlight the soffit location with a dotted line using a red pencil and record dimensions. This step is not necessary if you want to replace or remove soffits.
8. Also indicate the location of electrical outlets or switches by using a symbol. Indicate the height from the floor and distance to the nearest corner. You may also create a separate drawing for this to avoid confusion.
